A **custom shape QR code** is a working QR code whose outline forms a picture - a heart, a circle, a star, a house - instead of a plain square. The scannable code lives inside the shape, and decorative QR-style modules fill out the rest of the silhouette. To a phone it reads like any other QR code; to a person it instantly signals what it's for. EZQR's custom shape QR code generator offers more than 15 silhouettes - heart, circle, star, triangle, house, maple leaf, shield, hexagon and more - and every shape stays fully editable: colour, gradient, and the link it points to. People call these **custom shaped QR codes**, custom QR code shapes, or just QR codes in different shapes - and the tool that makes them a **QR code shape generator** or QR code shapes generator. It's all the same thing: a scannable code with a custom outline, made in a browser, downloaded as PNG, JPG, or SVG. ## Popular QR code shapes ### Circle QR code A round QR code fits badges, stickers, coasters, bottle caps, and circular logos where a square would look out of place. Or turn a photo or logo into a scannable code with the [picture QR code generator](https://ezqr.ca/picture-qr-code). ## Heart QR codes The heart is far and away the most requested shape here, so it has its own page with a generator, colour guidance, and answers to the questions people actually ask about it: [heart QR code generator →](https://ezqr.ca/heart-qr-code) ## Do custom shape QR codes still scan? Yes - that's the whole point. Each shape keeps a genuine QR code at its core, encoded at the highest error-correction level so the surrounding decoration never interferes with a scan. A few habits keep any shaped code reliable: - Keep strong contrast - dark modules on a light background is the safe pattern. - Give the code room - print at about 2 cm (0.8 in) or larger, a little more for thin shapes. - Test-scan with both an iPhone and an Android before printing in bulk. - Chunky shapes (circle, house, shield) scan most reliably; very spiky ones need more size. ## How to make a custom shape QR code To make a custom shape QR code on EZQR, pick a silhouette, set a colour, paste your link, and download the code as PNG, JPG, or SVG. The whole thing takes under a minute and needs no account - the shaped QR code generator runs entirely in your browser. 1. **Pick a shape.** Choose one above, or open the [custom QR code generator](https://ezqr.ca/custom-qr-code) and pick a silhouette. 2. **Set your colour.** Solid or a two-colour gradient - keep it dark on a light background. 3. **Add your link.** Paste any URL - a website, a Google Maps pin, a PDF, a social profile. 4. **Download it.** Export as PNG, JPG, or SVG. Static shape codes are free forever - no watermark, no expiry. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### Can you customize the shape of a QR code? Yes. The square code itself has to stay a grid of modules, but you can customize the shape of a QR code in two ways: change the outline, so the whole code forms a circle, heart, star, hexagon, or maple leaf; or change the modules, using rounded dots and rounded corner eyes instead of hard squares. Both keep a real, high-error-correction QR code at the core, so the result still scans with any phone camera. ### What is a custom shape QR code? A custom shape QR code is a real, scannable QR code whose overall outline forms a shape - a heart, circle, star, house, triangle, and so on - instead of the usual square. The functional code sits inside the shape, and decorative modules fill out the silhouette around it, so it still scans like any other QR code. ### Do shaped QR codes still scan? Yes. Every shape here keeps a genuine, high-error-correction QR code at its core, so phones read it normally. As with any QR code, keep good contrast (dark modules on a light background), print it at roughly 2 cm or larger, and test-scan with a couple of phones before printing in bulk. Very thin or spiky shapes need a little more size to stay reliable. ### How do I make a circle QR code or a heart QR code? Pick the shape below - or open the EZQR custom QR code generator, choose a silhouette (Circle, Heart, Star, House, and more), set your colour, and paste your link. Download it as PNG, JPG, or SVG. Static shape codes on EZQR are free forever. ### Can I change the colour of a shaped QR code? Yes. Every shape works with a solid colour or a two-colour gradient, so you can match your brand. Keep the modules dark enough against a light background and the code stays reliable. ### Can I update where a shaped QR code points after printing? A static shape code is fixed once you download it. If you want to change the destination after printing - or see scan analytics - make it a dynamic QR code: same shaped image, but you can edit the link any time and track every scan. Dynamic codes are a paid plan. ### Quick Tips - Every shape works with a solid colour or a gradient - Chunky shapes scan most reliably - SVG downloads scale without losing quality - Static QR codes are free forever - no watermark, no expiry --- EZQR: static QR codes are free forever; dynamic QR codes (editable destination, scan analytics) require a plan.
